Why do we do it? The thrill, the buzz. The hunt, weaving our magic web of bullshit, charming and spellbinding, playing the game, saying all the right things, hearing the same responses – I don’t usually do this on first dates – “me neither but I feel a special connection”, bla, bla, bla, the frisson that we might be unmasked, until the conquest, the validation of our right, our superiority, overcoming and taking our dues. Within hours of arriving in Italy Foxy had made her first sexual mark. It usually takes me the whole day and night, if not an entire weekend, to make contact in a new town. As a man, however, it is harder, so I don’t give Amanda too much credit. Doing it on a train thrills the sociopath because it says fuck you to conventional society. On public transport, with a middle-aged man (fuck you mom, fuck you pops) risking disease, assault, public opprobrium, gee, what’s not to love about that? This behaviour conforms to other traits of the sociopath such as impulsiveness (#14), thrill-seeking behaviour (#3) and lack of control(#10). Perhaps you could add in irresponsibility (#15) but I just don’t get the concept of responsibility. Responsible to what? To whom? Why? Lame, just lame. what a drag.
